Condensing Zombie Pages
It may be worth rolling all the zombie variant pages into Zombies since most of these pages are only a few sentences and could easily be a subsection of the larger page. IMO not great UX for a user to have to open up several tabs to read related info. -- Spebby (talk) 01:17, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- They originally were, but it may make sense to just flesh out the stub pages. Half of zombie variants are bosses, which are important to specific maps/quests rather than just being kinda important in general. Outside the comments in the stubs, there's a couple thoughts here though: https://unturned.wiki.gg/wiki/Unturned_Wiki:Community_portal#Better_Zombie_pages. (Unmentioned – but realistically these pages should/could include both storyline, trivia, and strategy/guide info as well – similar to other pages.) Although if you think it's sensible to have a comparison table for different zombie types, maybe a Cargo table could be added to Zombies (similar to Animals)? --MoltonMontro (talk) 01:23, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- EDIT: To clarify "Cargo" is mw:Extension:Cargo. Cargo data is best added to the individual, specific page rather than a general page. E.g., if we theoretically wanted to include default damage, health, spawn behavior, internal name/enumerator, etc. --MoltonMontro (talk) 01:40, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough logic, though I still think that a brief mention on the main page may be good with a link to a "Main Article". I don't know if wiki.gg supports it, but the tabs the fandom wiki would have variants could be nice to still include the info. Though, that's perhaps even worse than splitting up the pages from a UX perspective. Cargo may not be as helpful for the zombies besides modding documentation, but I doubt it could hurt, just unsure what metrics there would even be to add. --Spebby (talk) 02:20, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- I used to be a big tabber fan, but it's actually bad for search engines / SEO. :C The main page currently has the zombies navbox, but we could do something more. E.g., Minecraft's "Mobs" page is stylistically interesting. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Mob#Neutral_mobs We do something similar on pages like Russia currently. --MoltonMontro (talk) 04:09, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- Great points. SEO is annoying. I suppose it's less of a burden for some things (ex gasmask/specific items). At some point official policy should maybe be written up on that, but obviously it's not a priority right now. Re Minecraft: I think I'll demo something like that on the Animal page, wouldn't be too hard to make some basic icons. For sure, something to be done with the zombies, but it may be harder to represent them without original art. Obviously, screenshots are probably perfectly good. --Spebby (talk) 05:48, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
